Cricket Tournament on Friday 8th August at Llechryd Cricket Club
‘We are really excited about our Kwik Cricket Tournament,’ said Alex Martin of Clynfyw Care Farm, Abercych. ‘We’ve been holding coffee mornings once a month for different charities all year, and we thought it would be fun to run a cricket tournament in aid of a cricket related charity.’
The Tournament will take place at Llechryd Cricket Club in aid of the East Africa Cricket Foundation on Friday 8th August. Running from 11.00 to 2.30, there will be a barbecue, teas, coffees and cakes and a bar.
‘The East Africa Cricket Foundation seeks to encourage young boys and girls in East Africa, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds, to become engaged in cricket,’ said Chris Tongue, EACDT Trustees’ Chairman. ‘Through cricket we hope they will develop important personal qualities including self-esteem and confidence along with specific character traits such as enthusiasm, perseverance, self-control, optimism, gratitude and social intelligence. These are things that will prepare them for adult life.’
There is no cost to come and watch, though there will be a raffle throughout the day raising funds for the cause.
‘We are delighted to be working in partnership with Clynfyw on this project,’ said Angela Miles, Pembrokeshire County Council Disability Sports Officer. ‘We hope this will lead to more disabled people taking part in a whole range of sports throughout the County.’
‘We are grateful to Llechryd Cricket Club for allowing us to hold the Tournament at their lovely ground,’ said Alex. ‘Clynfyw has had links to the club since its first inception, and we hope this will become an event that happens annually for many years to come.’
There is still time to enter a team so if you are interested and would like more information, please phone 01239-841 236. If it rains, we will adjourn to a local village hall for a game of short-mat bowls.
