Sad News

 In EACDT News

It is with deepest sadness that we report the death in office of our Trustee, Chris Tongue. Chris was a founding Trustee of EACDT and he chaired the Board until forced to relinquish that position earlier this year due to failing health. A graduate of Cambridge University and a keen and accomplished cricketer since childhood, Chris dedicated his life to education. He taught in Uganda and Kenya, where he played for Kenya Kongonis CC, in Scotland and at Felsted in Essex before his appointment as Headmaster of St John’s School in Leatherhead, Surrey. Following his retirement from there in 2004, Chris developed a career as a much sought-after educational consultant, advising boards of governors on the selection of Head Teachers, mentoring and carrying out appraisals.

We will miss Chris’s enthusiasm for our purpose: character education through cricket. He epitomised every one of the seven principles upon which our programme is predicated: perseverance, enthusiasm, self-control, optimism, gratitude, social intelligence and curiosity.
