Sleep Out at Lord’s: Join the Gandon Prodger Legacy Fund’s Fundraiser for Transformational Change – 27th February 2025
Dear All,
Simon Prodger a great Kongoni and friend to many in the club tragically and suddenly passed away nearly 2 years ago. A legacy fund to support charities close to Simon’s heart was incepted shortly after his funeral.
Simon’s great friend, Nick Gandon, brother of Andy and a fellow Kongoni was sadly diagnosed with terminal cancer in early 2024 and has enjoyed defying the prognosis from the Doctors.
Shortly after Nick’s diagnosis, recognising the considerable overlap in causes close to both of their hearts, the Gandon Prodger Legacy Fund was formed and will operate until the end of 2025 and raise funds for four charities, the East Africa Character Development Trust in Nairobi, the Alsama Project in the Lebanon, The Club Cricket Charity and the Saracens Foundation in the UK. Each charity uses sport and mostly cricket to achieve transformational social and educational change among the communities of highly disadvantaged young people where they operate.
Many of us are aware of the East Africa Character Development Trust (EACDT.org) of which Simon was Executive trustee and Nick has supported in a number of guises for over a decade. The connections with our club in Nairobi are deep and long standing, and EACDT will receive 40% of all funds raised by the legacy fund.
A number of events and activities are being planned throughout 2025 the first of which is a ‘Sleep-Out’ in the stands at Lords on the 27th of February. This is a rare way in which people will get to experience the home of cricket whilst also giving participants a small taste of the (weather related) challenges of sleeping rough in winter weather, albeit in the safety of the stands.
Kongonis can get involved in this great initiative in three ways.
Firstly by joining the KKCC team at this event and raising sponsorship, if you would like to do this please contact David Hardisty as soon as possible to get your registration and sponsorship set up.
Secondly by sponsoring the KKCC contingent led by David Hardisty through the following link:
Finally, by nominating a child, grandchild, family member, friend or even spouse to participate on your behalf, enjoy the unique experience and most importantly raise funds for this great cause.
As a club it would be great to do whatever we can to contribute to this great cause.
