Character Education Tutor (Female) 

East Africa Character Development Trust (EACDT) is a registered charitable organization dedicated to transforming the lives of children and young people through character education and sport. Working in partnership with schools and communities, EACDT equips learners with the values, attitudes and life skills they need to become responsible, resilient and productive citizens. 

We are seeking to recruit a passionate, committed and suitably qualified female candidate to join our team as a Character Education Tutor. 

Position Details 

• Position: Character Education Tutor 

• Reports to: Hub Leader 

• Employment Type: Full-time 

• Location: Assigned Programme Hub and Partner Schools in Nairobi 

Role Summary 

The Character Education Tutor will deliver engaging character education programmes that help children develop the eight EACDT character traits: Curiosity, Enthusiasm, Gratitude, Integrity, Optimism, Perseverance, Self-Control and Social Intelligence. 

The successful candidate will use classroom lessons, learner mentoring, discussions, practical activities and sport to inspire positive behavior, resilience and leadership among learners. Working closely with schools, parents, colleagues and community stakeholders, the tutor will contribute to EACDT’s mission of transforming lives through character education. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Plan and deliver high-quality character education lessons using the EACDT curriculum. • Create learner-cantered, engaging and inclusive learning environments. 

• Mentor learners and promote positive attitudes, leadership and resilience. • Work alongside EACDT cricket coaches to integrate sport into character education. Full on the-job cricket training will be provided. 

• Prepare lesson plans, learner assessments and programme reports. 

• Maintain learner records, attendance registers and monitoring data. 

• Build positive working relationships with schools, parents and community leaders. • Support holiday camps, tournaments, donor visits and other programme activities. • Uphold safeguarding, child protection and organizational policies at all times. 

Qualifications and Experience 

Applicants should possess: 

• A Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Education, preferably specializing in Early Childhood Development and Education (ECDE). 

• Registration with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC). 

• Experience working with children or young people in teaching, mentoring or youth development. 

• Training in Physical Education or Sports Coaching will be an added advantage.

Knowledge and Skills

The ideal candidate should demonstrate: 

• Excellent communication and facilitation skills. 

• Strong organizational and leadership abilities. 

• A good understanding of child development and learner-centered teaching approaches.

• Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection principles. 

• The ability to motivate, inspire and positively influence children and young people. • Strong teamwork and interpersonal skills. 

Personal Attributes 

The successful candidate should: 

• Demonstrate high integrity and professionalism. 

• Be passionate about children’s education and holistic development. 

• Consistently model the eight EACDT character traits. 

• Be patient, empathetic and approachable. 

• Be self-motivated, flexible and willing to work across partner schools within the assigned hub. Working Conditions 

• Based within assigned programme hubs and partner schools. 

• Frequent travel between schools within the assigned hub. 

• Working Monday to Saturday (half-day on Saturdays), including participation in holiday camps, tournaments and other programme activities. 

• Attendance at staff training, planning meetings and professional development workshops is mandatory.
